Ontology is Overrated

Another thought-provoking essay by Clay Shirky arguing that Ontology is Overrated.

He gives his interpretation of how tagging can give rise to a noisy but increasingly cheap and useful ad hoc structuring over entities, i.e. URLs.

Emergent, fuzzy structures are on my mind a lot right now; both with my research and, more recently, with social software toys.
